Thanks to Charley Pennell for these GREAT old Second Fret Menus...what fun it is to look them over and R-E-M-E-M-B-E-R. The Jim Kweskin Jugband at The Second Fret... from the Saturday Evening Post Magazine, May 30, 1964 (Bob's in the lower left corner...white shirt)
From Kristin
Petri: Mississippi John Hurt. Interesting thing is the Stella 12 string
guitar sitting on the piano under the clock. John played the 12 string that
night, the only time I ever saw him play one. He never released recordings on
the John's opening act that night was a young guy we had never heard of. He had one record out and after the show a lot of us bought it. It was several years later that he put together a band and made it big. Give up? It is a very tidy and well coiffed Jesse Colin Young and that first record can still stand up today.
Thanks to Frank Stallone for this photo showing his band, Valentine, playing at the Second Fret in 1968
Thanks so much to George Manney from www.geosound.org, for these great clips about Manny Rubin and the times at The Second Fret click on the picture to read the article...Manny's interview from The Drummer The Drummer...underground paper in Philly at the time.
